Itinerary

DAY 1

Welcome to Berlin

Oderberger Hotel

Welcome Dinner and Cocktails

Arrive in Berlin and check into Hotel Oderberger. Now a spunky boutique hotel, the Oderberger was originally built in 1898 as a public bathhouse. It survived WWII unscathed, and guests can still swim in the original art deco pool. This evening, we'll meet in the hotel’s Fireplace Lounge for introductions and cocktails before taking a brief historical tour of the premises. Our welcome dinner will introduce us to Berlin’s personality.

DAY 2

Berlin transformations

Oderberger Hotel, Berlin

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we’ll start with the basics, an exploration of the landmarks that tell the story of Berlin's tumultuous past and its many transformations. Sites of political significance, providing insights into Berlin's medieval origins to its role as the heart of the Prussian empire, continuing through the challenges of the Nazi era and subsequent Cold War period, and Germany’s eventual reunification. Our afternoon will offer a unique and immersive experience that blends art and gastronomy and we’ll spend the evening together enjoying dinner from a unique vantage point that you have to experience to believe.

DAY 3

Art & Acoustics in Unusual Spaces

Oderberger Hotel, Berlin

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Visit the former central radio broadcasting center of East Germany, a place built for perfect sound. The vast interiors of Berlin’s Funkhaus are a perfect blend of modernism and functionality, with a nod to Soviet architectural traditions. In the afternoon, experience an exclusive private tour of a repurposed air raid shelter. Originally built in 1942, this historic structure has had many lives –a prisoner-of-war camp, a fruit storage facility, a hard-core techno club– but has now been transformed into a 32,000-square-foot exhibition space housing the personal art collection of the Boros family. After a uniquely Berlin lunch on the go, and a delicious dinner together, unwind with some classical music at an intimate venue with rich acoustics and an enchantingly unique atmosphere.

DAY 5

Breaking down walls

Oderberger Hotel, Berlin

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Gain a unique glimpse into the city’s Cold War history and its current alternative subculture when we ascend to the top of Berlin’s highest hill as we tour an abandoned NSA listening station which is now a hub for street art. Next up is Clärchen’s Ballhaus. Founded in1913, Clärchen’s has seen it all. Opened before World War I, it remains an operating dance hall, and for Berliners, a place that embodies the very essence of their city. After a very personal tour, join the ranks of those who have danced in this special place over the past century, with a (beginners) dance class in the Mirrored Hall. Dinner will be served downstairs in the restaurant with a nostalgic vibe.

Clärchens Ballhaus, Berlin

Delve into the city's recent past, learning not only about the barriers above ground but also the  fascinating underground stations and tunnels once used for daring escapes. Enjoy lunch with your fellow travelers before having a couple of hours at leisure. Later we'll get together to try out the game of Kegeln, originated in Germany the Middle Ages, players would roll a stone to knock down a wooden pin, symbolizing the expulsion of evil spirits... one of its most popular variations was the predecessor of today's Bowling!
